Who hates getting snail mail from loved ones? No one….I sure don’t anyway. (Send me a letter and I will write back!) Getting a letter in the mail is so special tho. It means someone thought of you and took the time to share with you. It’s not just a text you send on the spot. It’s a deeper way to show gratitude towards others.
My Grandma was really good at making sure you felt loved in that way. I always had a card for my birthday in the mail or she would just randomly send letters to me on my journeys where ever I was. To be honest, I wasn’t the best at sending mail back. It wasn’t until I moved backed to Michigan that would start writing more and sharing things back and forth. I would write about things going on and she shared memories from her and grandpa’s life.
One time writing her, thinking it would be funny, I made a tiny little letter. Sent it out and a week later it was returned for being to small! Then I had to deliver it in person. Telling she just laughed and said she had done that before too.
It’s been a few years since her passing. But sometimes you forget that a person is gone. When the time nears my birthday, just for second I get excited to see if there’s a letter from her waiting.
So to honor the great woman I knew and share a piece of who she is. I’d like to present my Polaroid Cards. These are a combination of my passion for photography and the joy of writing a letter. Something simple, but full of love. We would never be who we are, if it wasn’t for the special ones in our lives. Let’s make sure we take the time and let them know.
With Love,
Joel Austin Sentz
